Notion #1 : introduction to the project management tool

For more than a year, PULSE.digital has deployed the Notion tool within its internal teams. It allows us to continuously improve the organisation of work and the coordination of tasks between our different collaborators, with the aim of improving the productivity of our company. Today, we would like to present you with a series of articles on the use of Notion and give you our best advice on how to become more efficient!

Notion’s first steps

The American company Notion was founded in 2013 by Ivan Zhao and Simon Last in San Francisco (California).

In 2019, the platform already had more than one million users and a valuation of $800 million, while Notion only had 27 employees at that time.

What is Notion?

Notion’s promise is to bring together all information and functionality such as note taking, document management and sharing, project management, task tracking and relational databases in a single intuitive workspace.

A multifunctional tool

With Notion, it is now possible to find all the equivalent functionalities offered by tools such as Evernote, Trello, Asana or Google Doc. Thus, the user no longer needs to open one application to organise his project management, another to organise his note taking and yet another to create text documents.

For some time now, Notion has even allowed the integration of third-party applications such as Google Calendar. This way, the calendar is directly synchronised in the workspace, which saves time for everyone.

A user-oriented tool

The design of the platform is relatively minimalist. Unlike other tools, we do not find superfluous functionalities in Notion.

The tool is well thought out for the user as it offers multiple templates that he can decide whether or not to integrate. It also offers a lot of freedom to those who want to build the different types of blocks from scratch.

A tool that allows us to work hand in hand with our clients

At PULSE.digital, when we work on web projects with our clients, we like to be able to share their progress with them.

Notion offers this possibility since the tool allows the sharing of pages with other people who do not necessarily have an account on the platform. Thus, each of our clients can receive a link and annotate the document as they wish. Our team can then process the various feedbacks and inform them as soon as a task is finalised for validation by the client.

Notion available in web application version

In addition to the classic web version, Notion is also available as an application for Windows and Mac. At PULSE.digital, as we use the solution on a daily basis, we prefer to work with the application version, which opens in an independent window and not in yet another browser tab… Here are some useful links to download it:

Conclusion

We hope that the time and cost savings offered by the Notion application have convinced you to implement it in your organisation.

At first glance, if you have never used the platform before, it can be a bit tedious to set up the structure of your Notion.
However, if you would like to have support to better frame the deployment, our experts will be happy to help you!
